Yes2enterprise Goes Live!

For 10 years the Young People’s Enterprise Forum (YPEF) and YPEF Services Ltd have led the development and implementation of the region’s strategy on enterprise, employability and support for young people. Working with long established partners, YES offers an effective and professional management service for all aspects of enterprise education and employability activities.
Now called YES (Youth Enterprise Services) the aim is still to nurture enterprise in young people, facilitate an environment in which enterprise education can thrive and prepare young people for the world of work.
YES Chair, Martin Hathaway said, “In the current economic climate ensuring young people have the skills and attributes to be successful both as employees and employers is vitally important. We have to ensure resources are optimised for maximum impact and that there is a cohesive approach focused on what businesses want and young people need. YPEF is recognised as one of Yorkshire Forward’s successes and we are keen to ensure there is a meaningful legacy.”
Our aim is to ensure maximum impact and benefit to young people by ensuring cohesive plans based on best practice delivery. We will facilitate the best possible partnerships and solutions based on our knowledge and experience.”
In addition to ensuring that the development of enterprise and employability skills remains a key issue for Local Authorities like Hull City Council, Employers and Education, YES recognises the need to encourage and support young people into self-employment and business start up.
Martin Hathaway said “Our directors all run their own businesses and want young people to understand that working for themselves is an option. However there are gaps in support for young people and these must be addressed. YES will be very happy to help and work with young people seeking to get started in business.”
To this end YES have also relaunched www.spreadlikewildfire.org to develop a community of young, enterprising people and potential entrepreneurs and help them develop their skills and ideas with support from expert advisers. A register of advisers is being developed and already young people are joining looking for support. Both potential advisers and users can register through the website.
YES will work across the agenda with businesses, local authorities, schools and the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership to develop and implement plans and activities to meet their requirements.
Maureen Foers OBE Chair Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership said "The Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership welcomes these developments to support young people in the Region and Hull will give its full support to promoting the activities of YES - there is no doubt that under its previous name of YPEF it has given a real boost to enterprise Activities in Hull such as the Hull Ready £5 Blossom Programme, KC Enterprise Academy and Global Entreprenurship Week - the City looks forward to working with the directors and staff at YES to further support and promote the City's enterprising young people."
