Mail News &  Media supports the dynamic activities of Youth Enterprise. Our company invests in a long term future – and a major part of this is to attract, develop and retain talented, committed staff.  Whilst the Mail provides extensive training and development for our staff, we also depend on having a rich pool of local people to recruit from. So we do have some reliance on education providers and initiatives like Youth Enterprise to inspire young people to be ambitious and aspirational for their future careers.
One of our own aims is to increase awareness amongst local people of the vast range of careers available at the Mail.
Ask anyone about news media like ours, and they immediately think of journalism – and certainly that’s one very important facet of our business. Our journalists are trained in video filming and how to present stories to camera for our thisishull website; and in how to write stories for our website, as well as for our print publications which include the Hull Daily Mail, East Riding Mail, the Advertiser Series and the Journal.
Some journalists specialize – in sport for example, or in topics such as health, education and business.
But there are so many other career opportunities too …
Advertising staff work as Telesales and Field Sales, advising local businesses on getting response to their advertising from local consumers, by using the right mix of our print and online publications.
Advertising designers create advertisements for our print products and also produce animated advertisements for our website.
The Circulation department has both sales and administration posts, ensuring our papers get out to news outlets on time.
And Marketing staff undertake surveys with local people to understand how they want to access news and information. Marketing also work with other departments to develop our publications and services, as well as making people more aware of the value of our publications.
There are careers in IT too, servicing our computer systems and websites.
We’re proud of our staff – it’s because of their passion and willingness to learn that we’ve won a host of industry awards, including Yorkshire Daily Newspaper of the Year – four times in the last five years.
