Just For The Record
Warren Records is a new label based at The Warren Young Peoples Centre aimed at supporting young artists in and around Hull. The label was set up following the success of their appearance on Channel 4's 'Secret Millionaire', in which Jody McKenna and Keith Hagger convinced Martin Stamp they had something special that needed his support.
The Warren offers a free service for 14-25 year olds. This includes access to their music department rehearsal room, midi room and recording studio. They also run gigs at The Warren, The Lamp, The Adelphi, The Welly, The Sesh, The Queens and work alongside Love Music Hate Racism, to deliver bigger events at the City Hall and Queens Gardens. Warren Records completed their first release, Double CD 'State Of The City', a 41 track album featuring some of Hull's finest talent, last September and was put in delegate packs at last years Global Entreprenurship Week. The CD is primarily home grown music produced in The Warren studio, it also includes many guest artists from around the city. It is available from HMV, The Warren, Beasleys, Chinese Laundry, The Lamp, The Adelphi or online at www.warrenrecords.org for only £5!

Kath Davies, Principal Arts Officer for City of Plymouth Council, said,
'I am writing to express how inspiring the ‘State of the City’ double CD pack is and to congratulate you on producing an interesting, innovative and high quality release. Having come across ‘State of the City’ via personal friends in Hull, I was very impressed to see how the city is promoting its musical talent locally, regionally and nationally. I also am keen to see how Plymouth can learn from this production, as we share similarities in size, proximity to water and being seen as ‘out on a limb’.
'The package was presented to Plymouth’s Music Forum, which consists of the leading venues, promoters, educational institutes and cultural leaders. They were all really amazed and surprised at the level of professionalism and quality across the board including design, partnership working and of course musical talent.'
"Everyone at Plymouth Music Zone was blown away by the Warren Records – State of the City CD. The whole package was stunning with a superbly diverse, eclectic mix of music and artists. It was lovely to see such care and consideration taken over the portrayal of what is
obviously a'vibrant and thriving music scene. It’d be great at some stage to offer Plymouth something similar! If you can pass all our congratulations and support onto the organisers.
Coming from a similar youth project focus I can ‘t think of a better way to support and nurture up and coming talent - What a fantastic precedent of support to set up amongst the Youth of Hull! Fantastic stuff!’
