PRIMARY DAY 2009 - KC Stadium Tues 17th November

Hull Primary Schools looked at how food from across the globe gets to us here in Hull!

– an all day event for over 200 Primary School pupils sponsored by the Co-operative Group and Hull City Council.  This event wias based around the theme of Global and Fair Trade working with our colleagues at Young Enterprise at the KC Stadium. William Wilberforce  and Hull City's Nick Barmby joined us again this year.

HULL READY DAY Wednesday November 18th Hull Guildhall

– a celebration of the work of Hull Ready that gave young people in our primary schools the chance to develop their enterprising ideas following a loan of £150 from local businesses. At this event the young people presented their work to the audience. The event, presented by Blair Jacobs was at Hull's Guildhall, before an invited audience of 150 opinion formers in the area who heard presentations from four schools involved in Hull Ready and saw the launch of the Hull Ready DVD produced by GH Productions..

Post-16 Day Thursday 19th November Hull Guildhall

– an afternoon event for 170 young people on Modern Apprentice Programmes sponsored by Hull Training and Yorkshire Forward.  The day included a business game where teams had to present their enterprising idea based on scrap objects, to 'The Bear Pit’ at the Guildhall Hull. The main  speaker at this event  was blind explorer and motivational speaker, Miles Hilton-Barber, along with Rosie Winterton, Minister  for Yorkshire & The Humber, as well as local entrepreneurs, Amanda Hartley and Mally Welburn. There was a Dragons' Den style activity, "The Bear Pit" in which the young people could win prizes  of £500, £250 and £125 to be split between the team members. The Bears at this event were John May Chief Executive of Career Academies UK, Maureen Foers OBE Chair of the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership, Glen Little international motivational speaker, Mark Jones Head of Regional Development at Hull City Council and John Duffill Jobcentreplus District Manager North East Yorkshire and the Humber District.

Friday 20th November 2009 - (Day) 

– an all day event for 200 Secondary School pupils at the University of Hull for which we secured the services of former Apprentice finalist and successful northern businesswoman, Ruth Badger, the blind adventurer Miles Hilton BarberAndy Pickles, Chief Executive of Uexplore and disc jockey and musician; and MEP for Yorks & Humber Linda McAvan. Also joining us in a "packed programme" were young entrepreneur of the year in Hull 2009, Amanda Hartley, Phil Batty MD Force-7, Dave Garbera MD KH Smilers and Simon Long & Philip Benson of Xing Health There were fun, enterprising activities and  a business game, where teams had to present their enterprising idea from objects to a panel called the ‘Badgers' Sett’. The "Badgers" were Nicola Yates, newly appointed Chief Executive Hull City Council, MD of Arco Nicholas Hildyard, MD of U-Explore, Andy Pickles, Carolyn Burgess, Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce & business guru and entrepreneur,Ruth Badger. The three winning teams won prizes of £500, £250 and £125 and Ruth Badger generously donated an extra £500 prize. The prize money was split between the team members and the school. All delegates received a copy of Dave Garbera's book 'Smilers', to inspire them to consider enterprise at an early age.

Friday 20th November 2009 - (Evening)

- Celebration evening at Staff House with the band Quinteto Mambo Jambo with Salsa and South American Music which got the party-goers on the dancefloor.  There was a luxury Tombola run by Phil Batty and other ways of getting you to part with your money, as funds raised will go to support Hull's enterprising young people through the Youth Enterprise Bank.

Global Entreprenurship Week is all about embracing innovation, imagination and creativity. It showcases enterprise, opening up new opportunities for young people across Hull, the UK and the world.  Global Entrepreneurship Week embraces big issues like innovating out of the recession, low carbon technologies and sustainable growth. It puts Hull at the heart of global exchange, global trade and builds a culture of global ambition in Hull and the Humber in particular and the UK in general.

We secured financial support for Global Entreprenership Week 2009 from  Hull City Council, Gateway Pathfinder, Hull Training, Yorkshire Forward, the Co-operative Group, Jenko Ltd, Force-7, GH Productions, Reckitt and Benckiser, University of Hull, Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce,Arco, St Stephen's Centre, BAE Systems, Business Link Yorkshire, KCOM, Hull College, Hull Kingston Rovers,  & Hull Trains
