Career Academy

Career Academy
The Career Academy model has been transforming young people’s
lives in the United States for 20 years. Now it’s proving its
worth in the UK too; breaking down perceived barriers between
vocational and academic educational pathways, boosting student
aspirations, and encouraging businesses to share in curriculum
development. Set up by the business community in 2002, Career
Academies UK is a registered charity with 16 staff and a
formidable Advisory Board of senior business leaders - chaired
by Sir Win Bischoff, Chairman of Citi.
68 schools and colleges around the UK currently offer the
Career Academy programme; targeting middle achieving 16 to 19
-year-olds, often from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Another 36 schools and colleges are preparing to launch a
Career Academy in September 2008. By 2012, the expectation is
a network of Career Academies in over 200 schools and
colleges, serving 7,000 students a year. Career Academy UK
have invited Malet Lambert School in Hull to join a national
pilot to develop a programme for the under 16's
We lead and support a national movement of employers, schools
and colleges, working to raise the aspirations of 16 to 19-
year-olds. Our Career Academy model is revolutionising
partnerships between employers and teachers, transforming
young lives along the way. It isn't easy, and we’ll never tell
you otherwise. But worthwhile? You bet it is. Hundreds of
young people, teachers and employee volunteers tell us so.
We don’t only open doors. We give you the key.
