2012 - An Enterprise Odyssey....
Pupils from Humberside, in particular those at Stockwell Primary School in Hull and Oakfield Primary School in Scunthorpe, took part in the Young Enterprise ‘Our World’ & "Our City" programmes, recently.
The 2012 Games was a central theme that ran throughout the day at Scunthorpe, exploring the importance of global trade in the UK for the 2012 games in London and demonstrating how countries work together for such a tremendous event. Michael Singh of Games sponsors Lloyds TSB, gave an insight into the Olympics. He was also able to provide the young people with Olympic themed bags that acted as a great incentive for the children.
At the Stockwell Primary event, Anja Hazebroek, PR & Media Manager at Hull Forward, spoke to the children about the regeneration work that is being carried out within the city and why cities have to evolve. She showed them various power point slides which depicted the transformation of Hull and what Hull Forward are trying to achieve and then opened up a question and answer session to the children. The children then had to make their own decisions as city planners about where they would place offices, libraries and housing and finally, where they would build an Olympic stadium and what effects it would have on the people and businesses of that city. They then had to create a restaurant fit for a city hosting the Olympic Games, taking into account what kind of customers they would like, its location and what type of food would be served to athletes and visitors. (See "Stockwell Our City" in video section)

Picnic in the Park.....with The Duchess
Fireflight, the Young Enterprise Company from Malet Lambert School who won the Humber Sub-Region Company of the Year award and go on to represent the Humber at the Yorkshire Regional Finals, competing against three other teams - have achieved further success.
Following a presentation at the meeting of the Park Area Committee, they were commissioned to produce a Healthy Eating Lunchbox Buddy by local schools and community leaders, for an event in East Park with the Duchess of York. The cards link the twin issues of healthy eating and achieving economic well-being through enterprise, which are two of the six goals for our area that we want all the city's children and young people to achieve. At the event the Duchess of York stated the cards " are great and just what is needed," especially as she heard that Fireflight intend to work with teachers on healthy eating, using the cards in local primary schools in East Hull.

Mission Possible?
The gauntlet was thrown down to these six young trainees, who worked in teams, in a special challenge for Business Week 2008, to look at the prospect of a Community Bike Scheme for Hull. Pictured with them are, (Kneeling Right) Consultant Ben Sherwood who helped the teams get their heads round business plans and Phil Batty of Force-7, who with Charles Cracknell attempted to sabotage the project! (But they both got their come-uppance!), Prepare to witness some of the finest and worst performances on film (we leave you to decide which is which).
